you winked at the border guard - got frisked and you took it hard. you're in a funk for a week 'cause the junk in your head won't be shifted. tiny turns of the social wheel hit hard at the way you feel. you're uptight but you could make that alright - just give in and we'll get better soon. cold-cocked by a host of ills - beset by a stack of bills - you're at a loss how to carry the cost of the days you don't get paid after hours. find foes in your next of kin - find faults in your best of friends - you're in a stat 'cause you carry the weight every day 'til the wheel gets the best of you. blacked out in a taxicab - feeling fine about feeling bad - dice "adios" on the maximum dose of your script - it's your weekend medicine.

Bob Mould 02:37
little fingers pull me right out of myself. kill your ringer; i could use some help. hope and hunger fight to see which one's more brave. pull me under; let me be your little slave. and i'm so sick of not quite landing every trick i try to do. i'm your pavement - i'll scrape off every inch of you. ecstasy and politics will marry yet. fetch that hatchet - we'll baptize and bury it. at the hip, now, you're my wallet, i'm your chain. this is it, now - the holy goes profane and i'm so sick of not quite landing every trick i try to do. x my eyes out - i know every inch of you. i'm so sick of not quite landing every trick i try to do. i'm redeemed by my mouth on every inch of you.

Sequence #35 02:49
knock knock at the gates of the empire drive a stake through the heart of the vampire king elect in a state of denial bar the doors and lock down the files the black box won't help you recover you blew your shot and you won't get another giving up on pushing for better she could do it but you'd never let her spent your life with your head in a coffin shaking your sword at what's better on offer all in short-stacked in the short term pump it up, pump it out while the world burns and you are never going to see those days again

pobody's nerfect except for you belle of the barstool, cinderella with a broken shoe twirling on tip-toe, cue your line: "hey there, prince charming, what's your sign?" you made a plaster scene you get plastered and you make a scene a prancing princess and a dancing queen shuttin' 'er down, now - bless this mess "is this my limo? what's my address?" a sleeping beauty in a drunken dream sun through the curtains: home sweet home "why is there chewing gum stuck to my phone?"

Carbon Black 04:49
satellite tracks 'cross the winter sky a white cold light and a stitch in time past high slack and we're shifting direction space junk falls and i need some protection the shove and the signs and the push and the go gotta get shut of the non-stop show a wild wind blows and my thoughts turn red and i'm up cracking jokes with the restless dead press my life against the world's line to kill off the chatter of my monkey mind carpet of moss where i lay my head drinking water from the rocks and the earth for a bed life will out where there can be life the world is as sharp as the edge of a knife unlimited growth is the cancer's drive but it's a desperate dance to keep the host alive
8.
Uptight 02:18
you might find when you look at your life that you're more uptight than other people would like but you can tell them to go take a hike. it's your mind - it's your life - be as uptight as you like. there's nothing wrong with being uptight, you just define what you like and you hang onto it and if you find that you're uptight you've got to run with it. people say when you're uptight "you've got to loosen up, you've got to tap 'er light" but it ain't wrong when you're in the right to keep a steady hand upon your guiding light. it's not an easy road when you're uptight - you need the courage and the confidence to draw some lines but if you find you can make it alright they'll say "there goes somebody who knows their mind."

about

An album about: escaping yourself through the strategic application of alcohol; jerks; accepting mortality; co-dependents; the last gasp of the old guard; barflies; the collapse of modern civilization; and coming to terms with being a stick-in-the-mud. Ultimately, it's about putting one foot in front of the other, knowing full well you can't take it with you in the end.
